04.March.2019 - Bowie in Tampa Factoid

Did you know that Bowie performed at Curtis Hixon Hall on July 2, 1974? This was one of two Florida dates on the first leg of the Diamond Dogs tour. It is this first leg that was later documented at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania and released as David Live.

This good audience recording shows that this set from Tampa was not without incidents....

The stage set was built to resemble a city (called "Hunger City"), weighed 6 tons and was incorporated over 20,000 moving parts including a variety of props (such as streetlamps, chairs and catwalks). This was reported to have cost $275,000 per set, or about $1,400,000 today..

Unfortunately, the truck driver driving components of the stage props ended up in a highway ditch after being stung by a bee whilst traveling from Atlanta to Tampa. Thus, the Curtis Hixon show was performed without the stage set.

Nonetheless, David and his band put on a stellar set.

You’ll be able to hear a few of those songs from this show when we hit the stage at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Tampa on Saturday, June 29. 4 days to the 45th anniversary of this legendary performance!

28.Feb.2018 - Stardust Memories Brings Unplugged/Storyteller Show to Mount Dora in July

“Now it’s time to leave the capsule if you dare...”

Saturday, July 13th. we will be making our third appearance at the Modernism Museum in beautiful Mount Dora! Like the Boynton Beach show on July 11, this show will be in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Space Oddity single.

Another call for celebration is the museum’s update of their continuing exhibition Space Oddities: Bowie | Sottsass | Memphis - Including objects from the estate of David Bowie!

For this particular outing, we’ve decided to take a different route, change it up a bit and present the show in a Unplugged/Storytellers format.

This gives us a chance to deliver classic Bowie hits, classics and deep cuts in a stripped down manner, captured in the raw elements. And it’ll also presents the stories behind some of David’s most beloved tunes to both hard core and casual fans.

Our previous museum outings were performed to sold out crowds. So you do not want to miss this one.

We look forward to seeing our friends in Mt. Dora once again!

17.Jul.2018 - New vid: Cracked Actor (Live at Mount Dora)

Cracked Actor (Live at Mount Dora):

One of our newest additions to the ever growing Bowie repertoire! Originally from 1973\'s Aladdin Sane. This particular version is that of the 1974 Diamond Dogs tour arrangement as featured on its companion album David Live.

Of note: \"Cracked Actor\" became a centrepiece of Bowie\'s 1974 North American tour when he would perform the song wearing a cloak, sunglasses and holding a skull (à la Hamlet), which he would then proceed to kiss. The track also gave its name to Alan Yentob\'s documentary of the tour and a 2017 posthumous live album release of Bowie\'s performance at the Universal Amphitheatre on the Soul/Philly Dogs portion of the tour in Sept. 1974. Much of Yentob\'s film originates from this particular show.

While we had every intentions of recreating Bowie\'s cloak and skull poses, the latter object was rendered useless when it was found smashed in whilst in transit. So we opted to use the Aladdin Sane mask in hopes of conjuring something to the same affects...

Enjoy the vid!

15.Jul.2018 - Thank you Mount Dora!

03.Jul.2018 - 45 Years Ago: Ziggy's Last Stand at The Hammersmith Odeon

“...Not only is it the last show of the tour, but it's the last show that we'll ever do...."

45 years ago today, David and the original Spiders From Mars lineup (Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder and Woody Woodmansey) performed their final show at London’s Hammersmith Odeon. In addition, guitar legend Jeff Beck made a guest appearance at the show. Playing on the Jean Genie and Round and Round.

The show was captured on tape by RCA Records and filmed by famed documentarian DA Pennebaker. The concert film had its first show on American television network ABC’s series In Concert in 1974.

The film and its accompanying soundtrack was later edited and released by 20th Century Fox and RCA under the title of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars: The Motion Picture.

It was later reissued for DVD and CD for a 30th anniversary edition with a new mix by Tony Visconti in 2003.

27.May.2018 - Thanks to those who attended the Us Too Fest

We made our return to the stage last night at St. Pete’s Jannus Live for WMNF’s Us Too Fest - A Tribute to the Us Fest. Manx thx to SSL Talent & Production, LLC. and WMNF for having us part of the event.

We played a brief set comprising of Let’s Dance, China Girl, Station to Station and “Heroes". Of course the two 80s hits and the Berlin anthem were well received as expected. Much to our surprise, though, Station to Station was the highlight of our short set.

03.Jul.2017 - Skipper's/Ziggy 45 - Thank you!

This past Friday's Ziggy 45th Anniversary show at Skipper's Smokehouse. As always, I was quite surprised by both the number of people that showed up and their response. In this case, my surprise runs due to the fact that we had the weather playing against us and the thought of doing a 2 hour + show featuring an entire album smacked right in the middle of it might seem a little too epic. In the end, we won over Mother Nature and played to a healthy and very appreciative crowd.

What really blew me away was the distance that people traveled to see this gig. There was one person that came up from Sarasota... A number of people of New Port Richey came out and shown their 'Soul Love'. People who had seen us at Mizner Park Amphitheater last year "Took A Trip On a Gemni Spacecraft" from the East coast to see us again. Another one drove down from all the way in Ocala just to hear us play the Ziggy album! What a mind blast! It really speaks to me in terms of how much of David's music and life continues to impact us and how much he meant to us all. And to me, since my band and I are playing his music, it's very humbling...

I know I'm not a vocalist of Bowie's calibre or a natural performer such as he was. It's still something I'm getting used as I've always had an instrument in front of me. All I've wanted to do is perform his music. And I'm very grateful and thank my lucky star that I get to that with a great band of musicians...

To everyone that braved the weather, came out and spent their evening with us - Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. You guys really made this evening special. We hope to see you again soon. To those that didn't come out due to the storms, you missed a great evening of music. Hopefully, it'll be sooner than later when the opportunity comes up for another one in the Tampa area.

Tom White and Bonnie - Thank you so much for having us at the Skipperdome. It was certainly an honour and a pleasure in playing such a legendary venue.

Jimmy, our Front of House guy - Thank you for the wonderful work you did with us.

Gloria Fontan - Thank you tendfold for your brilliant costuming and alteration. I absolutely love the work you put into the outfits and giving them the spirits that they require.

Bruno amps for supplying Eric\'s guitar amp for the evening.

My mates in the U.S. Stones - Thanks for giving the evening a good proper kick off. It really meant a lot for having you guys do this show.

All of our family, friends and loved ones for their support.

Finally, the band. Great job once again! Let's keep this going and see where we end up!

Cheers,

M.

13.Feb.2017 - Notes from the Road: Atlanta

A note: Atlanta was absolutely a ball. Stardust Memories took to the stage at Smith's Olde Bar and gave it all to 2 sold out crowds along with our friends and headliner Rumours!

While Friday night gig was touch and go it was still well received. By Saturday Night's show and the first note of Station to Station, we were firing on all cylinders, relaxed and confident. The crowd was really into it. By the end of it, I left from the set feeling very accomplished with what we had set out to do.

The bottom line - ATL loved the band and we love ATL. I'm sure we will be back there sooner than later.

Many thx to Rumours for having us on these gigs. Thank you so much for the opportunity. I can proudly say how wonderful it is to have great musical brothers and sisters. Thanks for your support.

Noah Kess and Mark - Great job on the front of house and Mark mix. Very accommodating and on top of things. Look forward to working with you in the future.

The crew at Smith's for being very so hospitable to the band. Awesome venue. Great people. Great vibes.

David and Jann for sharing your special moment with us on stage.

Rebecca Little for your all your help.

Jez de Wolff and Andrea Musgrave from Tvc15 ATL for their support.

Finally and most importantly - The band. Eric, Brianna, John, Ron, Mark and Ric! We really pulled together and worked as a team on this outing. Not only has this trip made us a better band but a lot closer too. Thanks guys.

To absent friend- Scott, you were greatly missed at these shows but we know you were there in spirit. We look forward to having you back in the fold soon.

To everyone that turned up to the gig - Thank you for all your support and making us feel welcomed! We look forward to seeing you again soon ATL!

02.Jul.2016 - Kiafest Post Show Thoughts

What can we say? Wow. We were really blown away and knocked out by both the turn out and the response to the band's set last night at KIAFest Main Street Blast. Everyone was really on point. Excellent sounds by Phil Barnett and his crew. Chris Meyer, Liz Dainese and Eric - our wonderful tech crew for taking care of us. We are at the mercy of these people. Without them, we would be sunk. And finally, the audience. You were fantastic! Thanks to everyone who came out to help celebrate the life, music and legacy of David Bowie.

Much thanks to Judy Thomas and Steve Schurdell for making this happen for us.

Next stop is Mizner Park Amphitheater Friday, 22 July. Be ready Boca Raton!

Cheers,

M.

02.Jun.2016 - Dulcet Post Show Thoughts....

"Reflecting on last night's showcase and launch party for Stardust Memories....

Wow is all we can really say. To be brutally honest, we had very low expectations of what the turnout and the reception was going to be like and just hoped for the best. Not only was the place packed but the overall vibe was extremely positive. And it showed! We made a note of thanks to everyone last night but I'll make another note of thanks on here....

Bill Farrell from Onstage Music and Tim Cronin for their tremendous help with the sound...
Jim Gravely and Terry William from T Bone Entertainment for providing the fantastic lighting.
Ms. Gloria and Ms. Carlye Starr (aka Spellbound Stitches) for creating my awesome costumes.

Ms. Patty Anderson at Salon West FL for the Bowie-fying hair.

Dulcet Restaurant & Lounge for allowing us to put on this shindig.

Of course, everyone who turned up. I'm happy to know that there was a lot of love for this project. Thanks for hanging with us and letting us unveil it to all of you.

Cheers!

M.

Stardust Memories - The David Bowie Tribute Band

Dulcet, New Port Richey, FL

It is with great privilige to announce the live debut of Stardust Memories: The David Bowie Tribute!

Following their initial one off gig under the Circle Sky banner in 2012, there's been a demand to do more shows. The unforseen and untimely January 2016 passing of one David Robert Jones has further solidified the need to make it happen. As the song goes "Time is waiting in the wings."

Since the beginning of February, things are starting to pick up steam. The band's been hard at work to make sure that this is a top notch show. So, they will be throwing a little party to officially launch the band at Dulcet in beautiful downtown New Port Richey. At this event, the band will be presenting a special one hour showcase to give some of our local friends a taste of what's in store. Fronted by Mark Alan as the David Bowie persona, this powerful 8 piece band will be playing a nice poppouri of Bowie hits, album cuts and personal favourites. You do not want to miss out on this event!

Seating will be at 8:00 PM. Showtime at 9:00 PM. So, please be sure to get your seating early. Admission is free!
